Star of the North Ball 2008

We held our 2007/2008 Star of the North Ball on 19th April at the Chilton Country Pub & Hotel and it was another great sucess due once again to our fantastic sponsors and supporters.

Joanne Roseberry provided the venue, the excellent meal and also the sponsorship for the 1.10m open Champion and Reserve. Joanne is also owner of Penshaw Equestrian Centre which is celebrating its 30th anniversary this year.

Gareth Watchman, who sponsored our Intermediate section, runs a sucessful purpose built training centre from his home at Lakeside Stables. Gareth who showjumps both here and internationally provides lessons at his yard for all levels of competition.

Alan Scott and Janet Valks of Middleton Riding Centre & Tack Shop sponsored the Novice Champion and Reserve also sponsor at my Bsja shows. Janet and Alan have a popular riding school and run their own competitions at the centre.

This year we had a new 1.20m sponsor in Sam Jimmison. Sam runs a showjumping yard in Doncaster for both horses and ponies. Sam always has several young quality dutch horses for sale who she sucessfully brings on from novice. Her sister Amy showjumps the ponies at affiliated competitions. Also in a new section this year - 'The Leading Rider', Richard Picken and Graham Fellows donated the prize money and Freda Pullan donated the Ublesco Blue memorial trophy.

NEW SPONSORS FOR 2008/2009

For next year we have new sponsors who would like to become involved with the Star of the North, Sara & Paul O'Brien are donating 'The Paddy O'Brien' memorial trophy in memory of Pauls father and Sara, who has started her own PR company, is donating 'The Fish Freelance Communications Championship Rug'.

When we first started the Star of the North series we never envisaged it would have taken off as it has. Alan and I decided on a simple points system with generous prizes for Champion and Reserve in each section which were initially chosen by our daughter Donna. We wanted to give our competitiors something to aim for over the winter season as well as jumping the national qualifiers we were holding, the concept of the Star of the North fitted the bill as the sections ran alongside the type of schedules we run and it caters for everyone who comes to our shows. Joanne Roseberry, The Watchman family, Middleton Riding Centre, Jenny & Alison Lines, Norma & Angie Mills, Glenda & Steve Wright have sponsored since the beginning nearly 7 years ago and we can't thank them enough for all their support.
